Praying for AMiE churches this Advent – Week 1

Monday 1st December

We’d love people to be praying for a couple of AMiE churches each day as they seek to share the good news of Jesus in the run up to Christmas. A number of churches feature this week and there will be more next week.

Anchor Church Lymington and Pennington

  • For the organising of lots of events and special services we have coming up including a gingerbread house making event this week (December 4th), carol service (14th), nativity service (24th) and many other things (carols in pub, youth Christmas dinner, chip shop carol singing, taking part in Pennington Christmas Fair, carol service for a local nursing home).
  • For lots of guests to come to our events and services and for people to hear and respond positively to the gospel.
  • That as a church family we will all get involved in what we are promoting as ‘a month of mission’ and that it will spur us on in our evangelism.

Trinity Church Scarborough

  • For guests to be invited along to our Christmas wreath making events on December 5th and 6th and for keenness to explore more about Jesus.
  • For our Big Christmas Party on Sunday December 7th. This is an afternoon event for the community which includes an interactive way of discovering the true meaning of Christmas.
  • For many guests to come to our two carol services on Sunday 14th December. We have a dog friendly service at our later service so do pray dog walkers come along because of the space for their pets.

Becontree Church

  • For our guest services on Sundays at 4pm through December, which we are calling ‘putting the Christ back in Christmas’.
  • For our Christmas Family Night with fun, games and a gospel presentation on Friday December 12th.
  • For our Bethlehem Experience walk-through nativity, which we’re inviting local school children to on Wednesday December 17th.

Trinity Church Lancaster

  • For our Christmas wreath making evening on Friday 5th December in the Cobbler’s Suite at The Boot & Shoe pub. The venue is limited to 40 guests. Pray that God would be preparing those who come to hear the short gospel message.
  • For our Family Carol Service on 14th December and our Christmas Day Service. Pray for a full house and full-throated gospel proclamation.
  • For our new Christianity Explored course planned for January 2026. Pray that this would serve the needs of the church family and their guests.

Christ Church Balham

  • For our women’s breakfast on Saturday 6th December. Jules, our women’s ministry coordinator, will be speaking on biblical womanhood and sexuality. Pray that God will speak through her and that it would be helpful for the women of CCB.
  • For our nativity service on the morning of the 14th December. Pray that many non-Christian families would come along, that people would be welcomed in, the children enjoy the nativity drama and that the evangelistic sermon would point people to the Saviour.
  • For our two pub carol services on the evening of the 14th December. Give thanks that the local pub has agreed to have us again. Pray for the music team, that they would perform the contemporary renditions of carols well. And pray that many non-Christians would come and hear the good news of the gospel as our minister Andy preaches.

Trinity Church Bristol

  • We are having our main Christmas Carols on 7th December, necessarily early this year. Please pray for our evangelism as we distribute flyers and go door to door knocking. We’ve deliberately lowered the bar this year in terms of walking distance etc. to make it easy for everyone to join in.
  • Following that we would like to run Christianity Explored in January. Please pray this launches and has people who attend.
  • We are facing an unusual and unnatural number of distractions, from bizarre pastoral issues to serious attempts to derail the work of the Word with good alternatives that aren’t really gospel work. Please pray we are focussed. In all things may we proclaim Christ.

Christ Church Central (Sheffield)

  • Please join us in praising our good Lord who stepped into our world that first Christmas. At Central we’re going through a time of leadership transition, but we are so grateful for our good Lord in whom all God’s good promises are answered.
  • For our Carols by Candlelight service on 14th December, for many to come and for the good Christmas gospel to be proclaimed clearly.
  • For those in our church community who can’t go home to spend Christmas with family. Pray that we’d be quick to open our homes and to be their family in Christ, and pray that none would be left to feel lonely.

St Joseph’s Benwell

  • For preparations for planting an AMiE pioneer church in Morpeth starting in September 2026.
  • For follow-up from our women’s chocolate truffle event on the Friday 28th November, at which Fiona Matthews spoke. May many be drawn to Jesus this Christmas.
  • For a sense of urgency for us as a church family as we pray for and invite friends, family members and neighbours to our carol services this Christmas. Pray we will trust God’s word to do the work by his Spirit – and that many would want to investigate Christ’s claims further in our Explore groups in the new year.

Christ Church Greenbank

  • For boldness in our invitations and that even if those invitations aren’t accepted they would lead to gospel conversations.
  • That those people who we only see once a year at Christmas would this year hear truth through God’s word that would make them want to come back and find out more about life in Jesus.
  • That the regular members of Christ Church who are so familiar with the Christmas story would nonetheless be moved, inspired and transformed by the wonderful truth of God with us this year.

St James’s Ryde

  • For our Christmas All Sorts on 13th December, inviting people to our nativity on the 14th, that new families in particular would come along.
  • For our community carol service on 21st December. Pray for a clear presentation of the gospel and many to come.
  • For wisdom and opportunity in how to follow up those who come.

Christ Church Hessle

  • Give thanks for our Women’s Wreath Making event on 22nd November. Give thanks for the guests who attended and who heard about God’s work in the life of one of our ladies. Pray that many of the guests would attend further Christmas services, hear more about Jesus and turn to him.
  • For Carols Unplugged – our carol service in the Ex-Service Men’s Club on 12th December. Pray the church family would be bold in inviting their friends and neighbours and for God to be at work as we sing and hear of the birth of his Son, bringing people to repentance and faith in him.
  • For our Nativity Service on 21st December – please pray that local families would come along and enjoy the fun of the Nativity and that we might continue to grow in friendship with them.

Redeemer Church Thanet

  • For our congregation in relation to a lot of long term health issues. That God would heal or bring comfort to many, and that though we are a small congregation, any lack of capacity will demonstrate God’s perfect power.
  • Give thanks to God for the amazing provisions over the last 12 months and for teaching us not to doubt his perfect plans.
  • For our Christmas events: a showing of the 2005 ‘The Nativity Story’ film to maintain or to teach many the true story of Christ’s first coming, and then for our carol service the following day (21st December). Pray that many will be come and be convicted of the true message of Christmas and in repentance turn to Christ’s perfect love.

Christ Church Huntington

  • For follow-up from our craft event on 29th November. May many who came be drawn to Jesus this Christmas.
  • For our carol service (14th December) nativity (21st) and Christmas Day services to clearly proclaim the gospel to many unbelievers and believers.
  • For our outreach to care homes.
  • For a gospel response to the recent stabbings in Huntingdon as conversations arise.

Grace Church Windsor

  • For our carol service on 14th December, our Christmas reflection on 21st December and our Christmas Day service, that many non believers would hear and respond to the gospel.
  • For our church as we continue without a minister. Give thanks for continued faithfulness of the congregation, for new arrivals, and for the generous provision of speakers from another church in the area.
